    POONCH MAY 06:-In a nail-biting final showdown the Furious Predators emerged victorious to clinch the title of the 5th edition of the PPL defeating Haveli Chaos by a margin of 16 runs. The much anticipated clash kept fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

    Batting first after winning the toss Furious Predators posted a competitive total of 152/7 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was powered by a scintillating knock of 72 runs from Rydham Sharma and a solid contribution of 38 from Guri. For Haveli Chaos Kamran Khan delivered a fiery spell picking up 5 wickets for just 20 runs keeping his team in contention.

    In response Haveli Chaos managed 136/7 in their 20 overs. Despite valiant efforts from Waseem Qureshi and Farhan Khan both scoring 44 and 49 runs each the chase fell short. Guri once again starred this time with the ball claiming 4 wickets for just 14 runs. Karanat Bracken also impressed with figures of 4/34.

    Guri’s all-round brilliance earned him the Man of the Match title. Mannu Sharma was adjudged Player of the Series while Rydham Sharma bagged the Best Batsman award and Mehboob Shaikh was named the Best Bowler.

    The winning team received a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with the championship trophy while the runners-up were awarded ₹70,000 and a trophy. The third and fourth place teams were awarded ₹10,000 and ₹5,000 respectively along with trophies.

    The tournament was conducted under the powerful theme: “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – My Youth, My Pride”, and was dedicated to the martyrs of the nation, highlighting the spirit of youth and patriotism.

    SSP Poonch Shafqat Bhat (JKPS) graced the event as Chief Guest with DYSP DR present as Guest of Honour.
    The special guests present at the event included Nirdosh Kumar Sharma, Rajinder Singh Toofan, Nargit Singh, retired ZPEO Abdul Majid Dar, Jee Zaheer Ahmed, Jee Shah Aziz, Manager Sports Stadium Poonch Mushtaq Ahmed, Er. Saleem Banday, and Sports Council officials Syed Zakir Hussain, Ram Prakash, and Aman Sharma. Retired DYSSO Prem Prakash Luthra was also in attendance.

    The technical panel comprised Davinder Dabour, Hamad Mir, Ajaz Malik, Shabir Malik, Sajad Rather, Arfan Manhas, Zulfqar Ahmed, Mohd Iqbal Malik, Mahroof Hussain, Mahi Mumtaz Khan, Syed Imran Shah, Syed Talit, Waseem, and Er. Kamran Qadri.mukthar Ahmed,mohd Iqbal malik ,Mohd mushtaq.

    The Chief Guest at the final match of PPL Edition 5 SSP Poonch Shafqat Bhat (JKPS) while interacting with the players, emphasized that the youth must stay away from drugs and other anti-national activities. He urged them to channel their energy into games and sports avoid any unlawful acts and be responsible citizens of the country.

    Founder and Chief Organiser of PPL 5th Edition Pervaiz Malik Afridi briefed the Chief Guest about the overall progression of the tournament. He expressed his gratitude to all the sponsors team owners and the management committee for their contribution to the success of the event. He also thanked the Chief Guest Guest of Honour and Special Guests for giving their valuable time to encourage and motivate the players.

    The tournament is being organized by the Rahul Dravid Club Poonch.The tournament concluded on a high note celebrating both sportsmanship and social responsibility.

    Tragic accident claims life of 26-year-old Muhammad Asif while working on road construction in Katarmal village

    RAJOUMAY 06:-A JCB operator lost his life on Today after the machine he was operating veered off a road and plunged into a deep gorge in Katarmal village of Manjakot tehsil, Rajouri district.

    The deceased has been identified as Muhammad Asif, son of Muhammad Taj, a resident of Thandi Kassi in Rajouri. According to official sources, the tragic incident occurred while Asif was engaged in road construction work. The machine reportedly slipped from the roadside, leading to a fatal fall into a nearby gorge.

    Local authorities confirmed that Muhammad Asif died on the spot. Upon receiving information, a police team reached the scene, retrieved the body, and transported it to the hospital for post-mortem. The body was later handed over to the bereaved family for final rites.

    Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident. The JCB machine involved has also been seized as part of the probe.

    SRINAGAR MAY 06(KNO): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that after the Pahalgam terror attack—which left 26 people mostly tourists dead—people of Kashmir for the first time came on streets to show their anger.

    Talking to reporters here the Chief Minister, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “What happened in Kulgam shouldn’t have happened, but not only Kulgam, the news of arrests, which is coming from different places in Kashmir—for the first time, the people of Jammu & Kashmir, especially Kashmir, came on the street against the attack and have shown their anger. This message shouldn’t be conveyed to them that they all are being punished.”

    On the SDRF personnel conducting a mock drill in Dal Lake, the Chief Minister said, “During the past few days, two boats have capsized in Dal Lake and we have asked the SDRF to deploy their teams to prevent tragedies and loss of life.”

    Asked whether SDRF personnel have been deployed in Dal Lake after the MHA issued instructions to make civil defence preparations, Omar quipped, saying, “I don’t work in MHA. I work in J&K government.”

    Pertinently, the Ministry of Home Ministry had on Monday directed the Chief Secretaries of all the States and Union Territories to strengthen civil defence preparedness in vulnerable areas and districts.

    A letter written by the Additional Director General (ADG) Civil Defence, which is in possession of KNO reads: “The issue of strengthening of civil defence set up and maintaining optimum civil defence preparedness in the categorized CD towns/districts at States/UTs has been emphasized by the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister during their address at the ‘Chintan Shivir’, held at Surajkund, Haryana on 27 & 28 Oct 2022.”—(KNO)

    RAJOURI MAY 06:- In the wake of the tragic road accident village Ghani Mendhar that claimed multiple lives and left several injured, MLA Rajouri, Iftkhar Ahmed, paid a visit to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri on Saturday to assess the condition of the injured and extend support to the grieving families.

    Accompanied by senior health officials and local administrators, Ahmed visited the emergency and trauma wards where the victims are being treated. He interacted with the injured patients and their relatives, offering words of comfort and expressing solidarity during this difficult time.

    “This is a moment of immense grief for the entire community,” Ahmed said. “My prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones. We are doing everything possible to ensure that the injured receive the best medical care without delay.”

    He urged the hospital administration to remain vigilant and ensure that all necessary medical facilities are made available promptly. The MLA also directed the concerned departments to provide assistance for the families of the deceased and injured, including support for transportation, medical expenses, and counseling.

    During the visit, GMC Rajouri’s Medical Superintendent briefed the MLA on the current status of the admitted patients, stating that most of them are stable and receiving appropriate treatment.

    “The administration has been instructed to stay in close contact with the families and provide updates on the patients’ conditions. We will not allow any lapse in care or communication,” Ahmed affirmed.

    He also reiterated that his office remains open to the public for any grievance redressal, adding, “No citizen should feel alone in times like these. Please approach us with any concern, and we will act promptly.”

    The Mendhar road accident, which occurred earlier this week, involved a passenger vehicle reportedly losing control on a hilly stretch, leading to several casualties. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident and have promised to review road safety measures in the region.

    RAJOURI, MAY 06:– Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma today conducted a surprise inspection of the offices of the Executive Engineer, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and the Executive Engineer PHE Mechanical Division here to assess the functioning and ongoing progress of JJM-related works in the district.

    During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner issued string of directions to the Executive Engineer JJM and Executive Engineer PHE Mechanical to ensure regularity and punctuality of staff in their respective offices. He emphasized that indiscipline and laxity in attendance will not be tolerated, especially in departments involved in the execution of crucial public utility schemes.

    While reviewing the status of ongoing JJM works, the DC instructed the concerned officers to expedite the installation of machinery and equipment at the sites of ongoing projects. He underscored the importance of ensuring that all infrastructural and mechanical components are installed in tandem with civil works to avoid delays in project completion.

    The DC reiterated the administration’s commitment to providing safe and adequate drinking water to every rural household in line with the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission and directed officers to work in a mission mode to achieve the set targets within the stipulated timelines.

    RAJOURI, MAY 06:– Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today visited the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri to enquire about the health of the passengers injured in the tragic bus accident that occurred at Ghani in the Mendhar area.

    During his visit, the Minister interacted with the injured patients and assured them of all possible support for their treatment and speedy recovery. He directed the Medical Superintendent and the hospital staff to provide the best possible medical care and extend every necessary assistance to the victims.

    The Minister was accompanied by Additional District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, along with other district and sectoral officers.

    Expressing deep concern over the rising number of road accidents in the Pir Panjal region, the Minister called for urgent and concrete measures to enhance road safety. He emphasised the need to improve road infrastructure across the hilly and accident-prone areas. He asked for strengthening driver training and licensing systems, strict enforcement of traffic regulations, regular inspection of commercial and passenger vehicles, launch of targeted public awareness campaigns on road safety and detailed data analysis of past accidents to identify and address key risk factors.

    Later, the Minister met with various public delegations at Dak Bungalow, Rajouri, and listened to their issues and concerns.

    He issued on-the-spot directions to the concerned officers for time bound redressal of genuine public grievances.
