Former J&K CM Accuses Centre of Targeting Minorities, Criticizes Abdullahs for Silence on Controversial Legislation

RAJOURI, April 20:-President of  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, on Sunday visited the residence of senior PDP leader Advocate Asif Iqbal Kataria in Fatehpur, Rajouri. During her visit, she interacted with party leaders, office bearers, local and citizens.

Addressing a gathering of supporters, Mufti launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of systematically crushing minorities and manipulating religious sentiments. She pointed to the recently introduced Waqf Amendment Bill as a prime example, calling it “unfortunate and unacceptable”to the Muslim community.

“The BJP had promised two crore jobs annually, but their slogans have proven hollow. Instead of addressing real issues like inflation and unemployment, the government is creating religious divides,” she said.

Mufti also criticized the National Conference leadership, particularly Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, for their silence on the bill. She alleged that the Abdullahs had gone so far as to welcome the Union Minister responsible for tabling the controversial legislation.

In a sharp comparison, she stated there was no difference between the elected government under the NC and the current LG administration, asserting that both failed to address the people’s real issues. “Providing basic amenities like power and water is not governance—where is the action on daily wagers, unemployment, and wrongful terminations?” she asked.

Mufti further cited a recent statement by former intelligence official A.S. Dulat, alleging an emerging nexus between the National Conference and the BJP, particularly regarding the abrogation of Article 370.

Concluding her address, Mufti accused the Omar Abdullah-led government of prioritizing bureaucratic power struggles over the needs of the people, especially on matters like daily wage workers and employment.

Cloudburst in Ramban: A Disaster Fueled by Negligence Safeer Choudhary; Senior AAP Leader Addresses Press conference, Blames “Criminal Negligence” for Tragedy

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

JAMMU APRIL 20:-Aam Aadmi Party Leader Safeer Choudhary  told media that the Ramban devastating cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district has left a trail of destruction—lives lost, homes swept away, and critical infrastructure shattered. But as the region reels from the calamity, questions are being raised not just about nature’s fury, but about human failure.

In a strongly-worded press statement, Safeer Choudhary condemned what he termed “years of criminal negligence” that laid the groundwork for the disaster.

“Ramban has been looted in the name of development. This is not an accident—it’s the result of unchecked corruption and apathy. We demand justice, not just sympathy,” Choudhary asserted, standing before a room of stunned reporters.

Entire villages have been erased. Roads have vanished into rivers. The National Highway—lifeline of the region—lies fractured, symbolizing what critics say is the collapse of governance itself.

Environmentalists and local communities have long warned of the dangers: rampant deforestation, haphazard tunneling, unscientific construction, and ignored ecological warnings. But time and again, those warnings were ignored.

“Why were massive infrastructure projects sanctioned without basic slope stability or drainage plans? Why were early warning systems not installed, despite repeated disasters in the past? And why has the National Highway project been repeatedly sublet, resulting in compromised safety?” Choudhary asked, raising critical questions that remain unanswered.

As emergency services scramble and residents mourn, one sentiment rings loud: this wasn’t just a tragedy—it was predictable.

Yet amid the despair, there is defiance. Locals are coming together, offering shelter, rebuilding homes, and organizing relief. Ramban, broken but not bowed, is rising again—with renewed demands for transparency, accountability, and justice.

As the waters retreat, one truth emerges from the mud and wreckage: Ramban will no longer be silent.

POONCH APRIL 20:-In the heart of the PirPanjal region, the cricketing turf of Poonch became more than just a field today—it became a sacred ground where sports met sentiment, and tribute triumphed over the echoes of loss. The Rahul Dravid Cricket Academy, Poonch, hosted an emotionally charged day of cricket matches across three age groups—U-14, U-17, and U-19—where every player on the field was a proud product of the academy itself.

This day was unlike any other in the district’s cricketing calendar. It bore the weight of reverence and remembrance as the entire event was dedicated to the cherished memory of Prof. Zahid Sharief, a stalwart of education and an unwavering supporter of youth development in Poonch, who sadly is no longer among us.

Prof. Zahid Sharief was not just a professor; he was a beacon of inspiration, a nurturing guide to countless youngsters, and a silent architect behind many rising stars. His love for education was matched only by his encouragement for sports, especially cricket, as a tool for discipline, unity, and growth.

Today’s tournament, played entirely by Rahul Dravid Cricket Academy players, stood not just as a demonstration of talent, but as a symbolic procession of his legacy. The youth so passionately guided came forward to bat, bowl, and field—not merely for victory, but for memory.

The ground was buzzing, not with noise, but with emotion. Posters of Prof. Zahid Sharief adorned the stands, and banners carried messages of gratitude and remembrance. Before the matches began, a heartfelt moment of silence was observed, followed by a touching tribute by players and coaching staff.

Mr. Pervaiz Malik Afridi,(NIS) Cricket Coach Chairman and Head Coach of Rahul Dravid Cricket Academy Poonch, addressed the gathering with words that resonated deeply:

Prof. Zahid Sharief was a pillar of our community—his spirit inspired both the classroom and the cricket field. Today, every shot played and every wicket taken was in his honor. He believed deeply in our academy, our children, and our vision. On behalf of the entire Rahul Dravid Cricket Academy and PPL Management, I pledge that we will always stand by his family. Our bond with them is not bound by seasons—it is everlasting.

The PPL (Poonch Premier League) management also joined hands in affirming this commitment. A spokesperson shared:

We will not let the family of Prof. Zahid Sharief stand alone. He was one of our strongest supporters and his blessings will remain the wind beneath our wings. His values will echo in every innings we play and every tournament we host.”

As the sun began to set over the snow-kissed hills, the atmosphere remained heavy with emotion but bright with purpose. The young players, teary-eyed yet proud, raised their bats toward the sky—a silent salute to a man who gave them reason to dream.

In the silence of his absence, his spirit still guided every step.
Today, cricket was more than a game—it was gratitude in motion.
