Derogatory Remarks against Late Mufti Syed unacceptable and condemnable. MLA Mehraj Malik should seek public apology Rafique Rather

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

SRINAGAR APRIL 09:-The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senior leader and District President Baramulla Mohd Rafique Rather has strongly condemned the deeply disrespectful and unacceptable remarks made by MLA Mehraj Malik against the revered former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Sahb, calling it unacceptable and condemnable.

Rafique Rather said “Mufti Sahab, a visionary leader and a towering statesman, dedicated his entire life to the service of Jammu and Kashmir and its people. His contributions toward peace, reconciliation, and democratic values in the region are unparalleled and continue to inspire generations”

Such derogatory statements against a leader of his stature are not only disgraceful but reflect a worrying trend of political discourse being dragged into the gutters of personal vilification. The PDP will not tolerate any attempt to malign the legacy of a leader who earned respect across party lines and was instrumental in giving voice to the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Rather added.

Mr Rather demanded that Mehraj Malik withdraw his remarks immediately and seek public apology. We also urge all responsible political voices to uphold the dignity of public discourse and refrain from distorting the legacy of those who have selflessly served this land.

The PDP stands united in defending the honour and legacy of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and will take all democratic and legal measures to ensure such disrespect is not repeated.

Mehraj Malik Attack: AAP’s Safeer Choudhary Slams BJP, Raises Tough Questions on Waqf Bill Silence

    GNS ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

JAMMU APRIL 09:-The political atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir took a serious turn on Monday after AAP MLA Mehraj Malik was allegedly attacked outside the Assembly premises, triggering sharp condemnation from the Aam Aadmi Party.

Reacting strongly, Safeer Choudhary, senior AAP leader, termed the attack as an “assault on democracy” and demanded accountability from the ruling BJP. He said that such acts reflect an alarming rise in intolerance against voices that raise real issues inside the Assembly.

“How long will this hooliganism be tolerated?” asked Choudhary. “If outsiders can attack elected representatives and the system remains silent, then what is the meaning of democratic governance?”

Choudhary added that Mehraj Malik has been consistently voicing concerns on public issues, particularly the sensitive Waqf Amendment Bill, and asking uncomfortable but necessary questions.

“Is Mehraj Malik being targeted just because he is asking tough questions that those in power don’t want to answer? Is this the cost of speaking for the people?” he asked.

He further hit out at BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa, accusing him of using divisive and derogatory language to label dissenters as “anti-national” or “terrorist.”

“This is a pattern,” Choudhary stated. “Every time someone disagrees with BJP, they are branded as enemies of the nation. Is this what democracy has come down to?”

Safeer Choudhary also raised eyebrows over the continued silence in the Assembly on the Waqf Amendment Bill. He pointed out that while other states have managed to pass resolutions and conduct debates on the issue, Jammu and Kashmir’s Assembly has failed to even begin discussion.

“In a Union Territory with a Muslim majority population, the deliberate avoidance of discussion on the Waqf Bill raises serious questions about political priorities,” Choudhary said.

He questioned the overall performance of the Assembly during the ongoing session, which has seen repeated disruptions and adjournments.

“Besides daily chaos, what real work has been done? Which schools were upgraded? What health centres were sanctioned? What has been delivered to the people?” he asked.

Calling the attack on Mehraj Malik “a red line,” Safeer Choudhary said that this is not just an attack on one man but on the very principle of democratic representation.

“If a sitting MLA is attacked for doing his constitutional duty, then it is democracy itself that is under assault.”

Choudhary confirmed that Aam Aadmi Party will take this matter forward on all platforms — legal, public, and political. He said the party will not be silent on such issues, and will continue to raise its voice for the people.

“This fight is not just for Mehraj Malik. This is for every voice that wants to speak the truth. And we will not back down.”
