    RAJOURI, FEB 05: The 2-day District Level Sports Meet organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India) successfully concluded today at Mini Stadium Rajouri.

    The program was held under the aegis of MY Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat) an initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

    The District Youth Services and Sports department provided necessary support and coordination for the Tournament.

    A total of 6 Sports Events were organised under the Meet in which the winners of 6 cluster level sports meets participated. The cluster level meets were held in December 2024 and January 2025 in Sunderbani, Dhangri, Kalakote, Budhal, Rajouri and Manjakote.

    In the Volleyball Men’s Group event, Rajouri Team, under the captaincy of Saqib Shabir Choudhary, emerged victorious while the Kalakote team emerged runner up. In the Kho Kho Women’s Round, Rajouri Team emerged victorious while Manjakote Team was the Runner Up.

    In the Badminton Singles Women Round, Monika Sharma and Aushi Sharma from Sunderbani secured First and Second Spot while Neha Sharma from Kalakote bagged third place. In the Skipping Rope Women Round, Arushi Sharma from Sunderbani secured the top spot while Neha Sharma and Tineha Sharma from Kalakote were the runners up. In the 100 Metre Men’s Event, Sachin Sharma from Kalakote, Varun Sharma from Sunderbani, Ramandeep Singh from Budhal secured first, second and third prize respectively. In the Men’s Shot Put Event, Randeep Singh, Waseem Akram and Azad Khan from Budhal secured first, second and Third prize respectively.

    Adv. Naseem Liaqat, Chairman District Development Council was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, while Ashiq Rafiq Malik was the Guest of Honour. The Chief Guest congratulated the winners and lauded the organizers for hosting the mega event. The program was held under the guidance of DYO NYKS Nitin Hangloo.

    Among others present in the Event were DYSSO Sukhdev Sharma; I/C DYSSO Gulzar Ahmed; ZPEO Wali Mohd; Activity Incharge Idrees Wani, officials and staff of YSS. State Level Resource Person NYKS Vikrant Sharma coordinated the event.

    At the end, Sports Kits were distributed among the youth clubs. The winners shall now participate in the UT Level Sports Meet at Jammu.

    SRINAGAR FEB 05:-The Care Foundation, under the leadership of its founder, Dr. Mehjabeen Nabi, successfully organized a World Cancer Day awareness program at Zalpora, Sumbal. The initiative aimed to enhance public awareness about cancer, with a particular focus on early detection and a patient-centered approach to treatment.

    Aligned with this year’s theme, “United by Unique,” the program underscored the individuality of each cancer patient’s journey and advocated for a people-centered approach to cancer care.

    The event was honored by the presence of Mohd Amin Bhat as the chief guest, alongside Block Medical Officer (BMO) Hajin. Dr. Syed Idrees, accompanied by his team, including Dr. Mahida and Dr. Shayista, delivered informative sessions on cancer prevention and early detection. The speakers emphasized the importance of regular screenings, healthy lifestyle choices, and the collective role of society in combating cancer.

    RAJOURI, FEB 05: Mission Director Khursheed Ahmad Shah today took a comprehensive review of the Jal Jeevan Mission works in Rajouri district at a meeting held today.

    Chief Engineer Jal Shakti Department Jammu Vikas Sharma; SE Jal Shakti Department, Er Taj Chowdhary; SE Jal Shakti Mechanical, Bodh Raj Bhagat; EXEN Jal Shakti Rajouri, Ashwini Sharma; EXEN Jal Shakti Nowshera, Gopal Krishan Sharma; EXEN PDD Rajouri, Mohammad Rashid;; EXEN PWD (R&B) Rajouri, Sardar Khan; EXEN Ground and drilling division Jammu Rakesh Bhatti; AEEs and JEEs of the Jal Shakti Department attended the meeting.

    The meeting was informed that 298 JJM schemes have been approved for the district, of which 183 are for the Rajouri division and 115 are for the Nowshera division.

    The Mission Director directed the department to focus on ensuring quality work, timely completion of projects and proper supervision of the same.

    The Mission Director also reviewed component wise progress including construction of dug wells, borewell, RSFP, OHT, SSFP, Pipe network. It was informed that of 351 components including dug well, borewell, RSFP, OHT, SSFP, Pipe network, the work on 143 is complete. He also reviewed the status of the mechanical and electro mechanical components.

    RAJOURI FEB 05:– The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 237 Battalion, under its Civic Action Program, successfully organized a free medical cum awareness camp at Beji Kewal. The camp benefitted more than 100 patients from Kewal village and its adjoining areas, providing free medical check-ups and valuable health awareness.

    Assistant Commandant of CRPF 237 BN, Sandeep Kumar Hathi, while addressing the participants, emphasized the primary aim of the camp to provide essential medical services to the people residing in remote and far-flung areas. He further highlighted that the camp also focused on creating awareness regarding various health issues to improve the overall well-being of the community.

    The initiative received a warm appreciation from the locals, with the former Sarpanch of Kewal, Farooq Inqlabi, expressing heartfelt gratitude to CRPF 237 BN for organizing the camp and extending a helping hand to the needy residents of the area.

    JAMMU FEB 05:-Residents of Sunjwan, Jammu, took to the streets today under the leadership of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Safeer Choudhary, protesting against the Jal Shakti Department over a prolonged water crisis. The demonstration, held at the Meta Door Stand Sunjwan Jammu, was fueled by growing frustration over 55 days of disrupted water supply, forcing locals to rely on costly private tankers.

    Chanting slogans and holding placards, protesters accused the department of negligence and failure to address their grievances. Many highlighted the severe impact of the crisis on daily life, particularly in the prevailing harsh weather conditions.

    Speaking at the protest rally Choudhary slammed the authorities for their inaction, emphasizing that access to clean water is a fundamental right.

    “For nearly two months, residents have been left without a drop of water. Families are being forced to pay exorbitant prices for tankers, while those who can’t afford them are struggling to meet basic needs. The government must take responsibility and act immediately,” he said.

    Locals are demanding an urgent resolution to the crisis, including the immediate restoration of regular water supply and free tanker services until the issue permanently fixed. Despite multiple complaints, residents claim the Jal Shakti Department has failed to provide any concrete solutions.

    Protesters warned that if the authorities continue to ignore their plight, they will escalate their agitation in the coming days.

    Residents now await swift action, hoping for relief from the prolonged hardship that has disrupted their lives.

    RAJOURI FEB  04:All the 11 patients from Badhal village, including three on ventilation, who were under treatment in Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AH GMC) Rajouri have recovered and shifted to general ward for further observation.

    This was disclosed by the Medical Superintendent AH GMC in a press briefing today.
    Earlier all the 11 patients are taken off of Atropine and their discharge has been postponed till the final diagnosis of the toxin consumed by them is made by the reports from the central forensic laboratories.
    “The final decision for their discharge will be taken by the higher authorities at Jammu or Delhi,” said the Medical Superintendent.
    Recently two high-level teams of experts from AIIMS New Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh visited GMC Rajouri and Badhal area and interacted with the patients and inhabitants of the area both at Badhal and at observation centers in Rajouri.
    It is pertinent to mention here that 364 individuals from 87 families, including families of the 17 persons who died due to unidentified diseases, have been shifted to observation centers at Nursing College, Govt Model Boys HSS, and GMC Rajouri.
    All the central teams, including inter-ministerial constituted by the Home Minister, visited Rajouri and Badhal after the deaths of 17 people, including 13 children are working to find the possible cause, sources of toxin and to formulate the follow up and discharge policy of these patients so that proper treatment can be given to these patients at the time of discharge.
    High level AIIMS New Delhi team, headed by its Director had collected different sample, including of hairs, nails and blood of the patients, their close contacts and family members, soil from used water outlets, food items and medicines taken by them (& by the deceased), fresh vegetables from the plants of the affected families, water etc., left Rajouri on Monday.
    Meanwhile, those who have been shifted to observation centers have resented strongly their shifting to Rajouri.
    “For none of our fault we have been forced to live in the observation centers. We, including our children and girls, don’t have sufficient clothes, other items of daily use. Meals provided by the administration are also not satisfactory. Our livestock is also being looked after by the employees of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture departments,” said few among them.
    MLA Darhal, Javed Iqbal Choudhry, who is since the first day looking after the health and welfare of these people, also is in constant touch with people in observation centers and assured them of their early departure to their homes.
