    SRINAGAR DEC 20:-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary (Org), Jammu & Kashmir, Ashok Koul, held a comprehensive review meeting today with the newly appointed District Returning Officers and Additional Returning Officers for the BJP. The meeting took place at Church Lane, Srinagar, and was aimed at ensuring smooth and efficient coordination for the party’s election-related activities.

    The meeting was also attended by the State Co-Returning Officer, the Membership Drive Incharge for Kashmir, and senior party leaders. Key discussions focused on the roles and responsibilities of the appointed officers. Ashok Koul stressed the importance of preparedness, effective communication, and transparency to ensure the smooth functioning of party operations.

    Koul also took the opportunity to review the ongoing membership drive in the region and emphasized strengthening the party’s presence at the grassroots level. He encouraged the newly appointed officers to work in close coordination with other party officials to ensure the successful conduct of the party’s electoral strategy.

    SRINAGAR DEC 20:- In a heartfelt statement to the media, social activist Afiqa Ali expressed her grief and extended condolences to renowned cardiologist and former director of SKIMS, Dr. A.G. Ahanger, on the passing of his mother.

    Dr. Ahanger’s mother passed away a few days back. She was laid to rest in the ancestral graveyard of her village, Midoora, located in Tral.

    Earlier, several social and political activists condoled the demise and expressed their sympathies with the bereaved family, particularly with Dr. A.G. Ahanger.

    RAJOURI DEC 20:-District Administration Rajouri has undertaken and completed the survey of Manual Scavengers and declared Rajouri as Manual Scavenging free.

    District Magistrate, Abhishek Sharma, in a notice issued on Thursday (December 19) has sought objections, if any, from the general public or claimants regarding this declaration.

    “Such objections must be submitted in writing to the office of District Social Welfare Officer Rajouri within 15 days from the date of publication of this notice.The objections may be submitted in person or sent via email to- pa.dcrajouri@gmail and rajouridswo@gmail.com. After the expiry of the stipulated period, if no objection is received, the district will be officially notified as Manual Scavenging Free” read District Magistrate notice.
    It is pertinent to mention here that in pursuance of order dt 20-10-2023 of Hon’ble Supreme Court WP©324/2020filed by Dr Balram Singh V/S Union of India & others and as per guidelines for Survey of Manual Scavengers issued by the GoI vide letter Dt 1-2-2024, District Administration Rajouri has undertaken and completed survey and has found no Manual Scavenger in the district.

    Manual scavenging is the practice of manually cleaning, carrying, disposing of , or handling human waste in an open drain, pit, latrine or on a railway track .
    This practice is often performed by people from lower castes and is considered a serious human rights violation.
