    SRINAGAR DEC 17:-The Division of Forest Biology and Tree Improvement, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-Kashmir, inaugurated one-week training program titled “Prioritize Species with Diminished Genetic Variation or Confronting Imminent Risks” sponsored by MSME at Faculty of Forestry, Benhama, Ganderbal. The program is scheduled to run from December 17th to December 23rd, 2024.

    The program was inaugurated by Prof. P. A. Khan, Head, FBT Division, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K who highlighted the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among the younger generation through conservation of species genetic resources critical for ecosystem resilience that ensure sustainable livelihoods and environmental balance. He urged the youth to safeguard species that are on the brink while fostering sustainable development and encouraging active engagement with nature for societal well-being.

    Dr. Mohamad Maqbool Rather, the Program Coordinator, provided a comprehensive overview of the training. He emphasized the significance of entrepreneurial initiatives in enabling self-sustaining livelihoods.

    Dr. Rather outlined the hands-on design of the program, which focuses on equipping participants with practical skills. He highlighted how genetic diversity allows species to adapt to changing environmental conditions & low genetic variation makes species more vulnerable to diseases, habitat changes, and climate stressors resulting from habitat fragmentation, small population sizes, inbreeding, and overexploitation. He underscored how young individuals can contribute to income generation through innovative start-ups, ultimately fostering the overall growth of society.

    Finally, Dr. Rather expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. N.A. Ganie, Director of Planning and Monitoring Prof. H. R. Naik and Dean of the Faculty of Forestry Prof. S. A. Gangoo for their invaluable guidance and support. He also extended sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, for sponsoring the program.

    RAJOURI, DEC 17:-Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, today chaired a meeting here in the Conference Hall of DC Office to review the implementation of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).

    The meeting was informed that a total of 249 applications have been submitted to banks to date, out of which 25 cases have been sanctioned.

    *The DC directed the concerned banks to prioritize and expedite the processing of pending applications. He further instructed all departments to proactively follow up the submitted cases to ensure timely approvals.*

    Reviewing other related schemes, *the DC assessed the progress under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) and the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF). He directed the Animal Husbandry Department to take immediate steps for the establishment of a Milk Processing Unit in the district to enhance dairy production and provide better marketing opportunities to farmers.*

    The status of the National Livestock Mission and the performance of the Horticulture Planning & Marketing Department were also reviewed. The DC stressed effective planning and implementation to ensure farmers benefit from these schemes.

    *Additionally, area-wise applications received under the Kisan Khidmat Ghar (KKG) initiative were discussed. The DC urged all stakeholders to encourage participation and ensure widespread awareness about the scheme to maximize its outreach.*

    The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the district administration’s commitment to promote agriculture and allied sectors under HADP and other flagship schemes to improve the economic prospects of farmers and entrepreneurs in the region.

    The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Maqsood Ahmed, Chief Agriculture Officer, Sohan Singh, District Sheep Husbandry Officer (DSHO), District Animal Husbandry Officer (DAHO), Lead District Manager (LDM), and other district officers.

    RAJOURI DEC 17:-The traffic department has intensified its efforts to enforce road safety and discipline, cracking down on violators of traffic rules across the district.

    On Tuesday, a team led by ARTO Rajouri, Pawan Kumar Sharma, set up a special check post at Panja Chowk in the city. During the operation, approximately 60 vehicles were inspected, resulting in the issuance of e-challans for 21 vehicles and the seizure of five vehicles.

    Addressing the media, ARTO Pawan Kumar Sharma highlighted the details of the operation. “Our team checked around 60 vehicles and issued e-challans, collecting fines amounting to approximately ₹42,000. Additionally, we seized five vehicles, including two two-wheelers that were running without high-security number plates. Two other two-wheelers were found with tampered number plates, and an e-rickshaw was being driven by a minor.”

    He emphasized that the department is committed to reducing accidents by ensuring strict compliance with traffic rules. “This campaign will continue across various routes in the district. Drivers must follow the rules to prevent both small and major road accidents. Stringent action will be taken against any violator,” Sharma added.

    The traffic department has been proactive in recent days, conducting similar drives to raise awareness and ensure safer roads for all.

    RAJOURI DEC 17:-Senior BJP leader and Jammu & Kashmir General Secretary Vibodh Gupta on Tuesday met with Lt Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, to discuss critical developmental issues concerning the Rajouri-Poonch region. During the meeting, Gupta submitted a memorandum outlining key demands aimed at boosting infrastructure, tourism, and community security.

    Expressing gratitude to Lt Governor Sinha for his proactive outreach and people-centric governance, Vibodh Gupta emphasized the strategic and economic importance of timely completing the Jammu-Akhnoor-Poonch highway. He also urged the expedited construction of the Thanna Mandi-Surankote road via Buffliaz to improve regional accessibility.

    To address connectivity gaps, Gupta strongly advocated for the construction of the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch railway line, describing it as a catalyst for economic growth and development in the region.

    Focusing on tourism Gupta underscored the potential of Rajouri-Poonch to emerge as a global tourist hub. He called for developing the seven lakes as a prominent tourist destination and establishing a religious tourism circuit encompassing sites like Budha Amarnath, Nangli Sahib Gurudwara, and Shahdara Sharif. Additionally, Gupta recommended exploring the historical and cultural significance of forts and structures linked to Mahabharata and Mughal history to attract heritage tourism.

    Addressing the issue of power shortages in the region, Gupta urged the Power Development Department to devise a comprehensive strategy, including the establishment of a new grid station to ensure reliable electricity supply.

    Highlighting security concerns, Gupta advocated for enhancing community-based measures by sanctioning honorariums for Village Defence Groups (VDGs), issuing new gun licenses, and prioritizing the renewal of existing licenses. He emphasized these measures as essential for strengthening security against terrorism in the border regions of Rajouri and Poonch.

    Concluding the meeting, Vibodh Gupta reaffirmed his dedication to the development of Rajouri-Poonch and expressed confidence in the transformative impact of Lt Governor Sinha’s leadership and policies on the region.

    The celebrations included a Mini Marathon, a Wreath Laying Ceremony, a Blood Donation Camp, and a captivating Light and Sound Show, drawing wide participation and admiration. The events were graced by ex-servicemen, notable personalities of the region, and civil dignitaries.

    The Mini Marathon promoted fitness, camaraderie, and community spirit, with participants from diverse age groups showcasing their support. At Gujjar Mandi Chowk, the Wreath Laying Ceremony became a poignant moment, where soldiers and civilians gathered to pay their respects to the heroes who laid down their lives during the 1971 war.
