He characterized the once-prominent facility as a significant loss for the local community, as it now stands in a complete state of disrepair, serving no constructive purpose.

    “In its current condition, the marriage hall stands as a stark reminder of neglected public resources,” Reshi remarked. “This facility holds immense potential for the residents of Dana Mazar and beyond, to serve as a hub for community gatherings, celebrations, and cultural events. However, due to its ongoing neglect, it has sadly transitioned into an abandoned structure, failing to fulfill its intended purpose.”

    Reshi highlighted that the disrepair of the marriage hall not only diminishes local amenities but also detracts from the overall spirit and cohesion of the community. He emphasized the importance of revitalizing such spaces to foster social connections and promote local celebrations, vital to community development and morale.

    The Greater Shahr-e-Khass Group calls upon local authorities and community stakeholders to prioritize the restoration of the marriage hall, ensuring its transformation back into a functional and vibrant facility that the residents of Safa Kadal rightfully deserve.

    RAJOURI, DEC 04:-Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma conducted an extensive inspection of works executed under the Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) in Doongi block today. The inspection assessed the quality and progress of projects aimed at enhancing natural resource management and improving rural livelihoods.

    The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by ADDC Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, Project Officer IWMP, Sheraz Ahmed, and other district officers.

    DC Abhishek Sharma evaluated the IWMP projects, including water harvesting structures, soil conservation measures, plantation drives, and rural infrastructure improvements. While appreciating the ongoing efforts, he emphasized the need to align these initiatives with broader developmental schemes to maximize the impact.

    Highlighting the importance of convergence, DC Rajouri directed the concerned officers to identify and take up projects under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and MGNREGA. He stressed that integrating IWMP activities with HADP would enhance agricultural productivity and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to the local population.

    “Convergence of IWMP with schemes like HADP and MGNREGA is crucial to ensure efficient use of resources and the overall development of rural areas. The administration is committed to delivering long-term benefits to the people through such integrated approaches,” he added

    The Deputy Commissioner also interacted with locals and sought their feedback on the implementation of IWMP projects. He assured them that their suggestions would be considered while planning future initiatives.

    PO IWMP, Sheraz Ahmed, provided an overview of the ongoing works and highlighted their impact on soil conservation and water management in the region.

    The visit concluded with the Deputy Commissioner directing all departments involved to prepare a detailed plan for upcoming projects under convergence mode, ensuring they are implemented within stipulated timelines and achieve desired objectives.

    JAMMU,DEC 04:-Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo today held a meeting of Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department to take assessment of the steps taken by the Department to add more MBBS, Post-graduate (PG) or Post-Doctoral seats in the medical colleges established across the districts of J&K.

    Besides this, the Chief Secretary also took this occasion to access the upgradation of services offered to patients here along with completion of dozens of health projects taken-up in the length and breadth of the UT.

    Besides the Secretary H&ME, the meeting was attended by Secretary, PWD; MD, NHM; Principals of Medical Colleges; Director Health Jammu/Kashmir; MD, JKMSCL and other concerned officers.

    Dulloo enquired from each of the Medical College Principal about the steps they had taken to add the specialization courses like MD/MS, DM/MCH and DNB in their respective hospitals.

    He also impressed upon the Principals of 07 New Medical Colleges to take necessary measures to add 50 more MBBS seats in addition to their intake capacity of 100 seats each.. He urged them to utilize the infrastructure and manpower available with them to achieve this feat besides aiming for adding other specializations.

    He advised for formulating a concrete plan of action to upgrade the tertiary care services in all the newly established Medical Colleges and District Hospitals in next one year. He remarked that the government would extend full support to the health institutions aiming to make the necessary upgradations with optimum utilization of their available resources.

    Dulloo also took note of the human resources available in each of the medical college. He called for referring all the unfilled teaching vacancies besides taking steps to fill the positions of Professors through proper channel as this manpower is essential to augment the services and courses offered by them.

    On this occasion, the Chief Secretary also reviewed the status of IT based services like Tele-ICU, e-Sanjeevani, Tele Radiology, e-Sahaj, Scan & Share here in hospitals of J&K. He suggested to make health services universal and seamless by adopting these modules at an earliest. He made out that the Department should also choose some far off districts to be linked to GMCs under Tele-ICU program to minimize referrals from there.

    The Chief Secretary also took project wise status of major works taken up by the Department in different areas of J&K. He asked about the physical progress made in each of these projects besides the estimated dates of completion for each of them.

    While speaking in this meeting, the Secretary H&ME Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah informed that our Medical Colleges had applied to NMC for 213 PG seats, 88 DNB and 28 DM/MCH seats for the session 2025-26. He revealed that the Department is hopeful to get the necessary approval as they have chalked a program to follow it up at the highest level.

    He further gave in-depth analysis of college-wise seats and courses for which the applications had been made. Regarding addition of 50 MBBS Seats in new GMCs, it was said that same shall be taken up for the next session after requisite upgradation in human resource and infrastructure as per the set norms. It was added that proposals from GMC Baramulla, Anantnag & Kathua had been received in this regard.

    The infrastructure projects which came up for review during this meeting includes key infrastructure projects like completion of New Medical Colleges, Additional block of LD Hospital, State Cancer Institute at Jammu/Srinagar, R.N Chopra Nursing Home Jammu, Labour block at SMGS Hospital, MCH Lamberi, DH at Reshipora (Budgam), and 100/50 bedded critical care blocks under PM ABHIM, ECRP programme.

    Echoing her concerns for the victims’ safety, Zehra urged the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to take immediate action in providing aid for the reconstruction of homes that were damaged or destroyed in the fire. “Housing is a fundamental necessity, and I call upon the LG administration to assist these families in rebuilding their homes. The current conditions are not safe, and they deserve to live in a secure environment,” she highlighted.

    The visit not only aimed to provide immediate relief aid but also to draw attention to the long-term needs of the affected families. Zehra affirmed her commitment to advocating for necessary resources and assistance from governmental bodies, emphasizing that community welfare must remain a priority.

    SRINAGAR DEC 04:-The Division of Silviculture and Agroforestry (SAF), Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-Kashmir, organized a one-day training programme on Development of Silvipastoral Models for Sustaining Livestock Livelihood at its Benhama Watlar campus in Ganderbal. The programme aimed to promote sustainable agricultural practices and enhance livestock-based livelihoods through scientific methods.

    The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Nazir Ahmed Pala, Associate Professor, Silviculture and Agroforestry, who stressed the need for scientific approaches in farming to improve productivity. He provided an overview of the programme and its significance for livelihood development and self-sustenance.

    Programme Coordinator and Head of SAF, Dr. G. M. Bhat, elaborated on the importance of silvipastoral models in supporting livestock and improving farmers’ incomes. He discussed agroforestry practices, including fodder tree species and intercropping with perennial fodders, highlighting their potential to fulfill the vision of doubling farmers’ income as envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    Participants were given a field visit to explore research plots showcasing traditional agroforestry systems. Dr. Meghna Rashid presented a detailed session on establishing silvipastoral models and encouraged participants, particularly women, to adopt entrepreneurship in agriculture, emphasizing the need for self-reliance in employment.

    The event witnessed participation from AICRP-AF scientists, 60 UG and PG students, and local farmers. The programme received support from the MSME, Government of India, and was guided by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganiae, Director Research Prof. H.R. Naik, Dean Faculty of Forestry Prof. S.A. Gangoo, and Associate Director Research Prof. A.H. Mughal.

    The Division of Silviculture and Agroforestry expressed gratitude to the sponsoring agency and the university administration for their continued support in organizing such impactful training programmes.

    RAJOURI, DEC 04: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma on Wednesday chaired weekly Block Diwas program at Challas, a village situated near the Line of Control (LOC). The event witnessed a significant turnout from the local populace, who raised various developmental and infrastructural issues.

    Key demands raised by general public were PMGSY road to Challas, Doongi to Challas road, Installation of a hand pump and boundary wall for GHS Challas, repair and upgradation of the sub-center hospital, construction of a store for agriculture seeds and conducting awareness programs for pensions, water supply schemes and the construction of a bridge in the village, display of rate and beneficiaries lists at the ration depot, provision of ration for Anganwadi Centers, organization of camps for issuing domicile certificates, setting up a dairy farm and construction of a building for Government Degree College (GDC) Doongi, requisition of poles and transformers, and development of a tourism hut and park in Challas.

    The DC addressed each issue, consulting the concerned officers and issuing clear directives for resolution. He directed to blacklist the contractor responsible for delay in the construction of PMGSY road to Challas, and instructed the authorities to commence work within a week.

    The DC directed for speedy construction of the school boundary wall, encouraging regular classes at mobile schools and learning assessment of students, deployment of an ambulance at Bagla Nadlaya and a doctor at PHC Nadala. The opening of a seed store at Challas and the engagement of a Krishi Udyami were emphasized. A vaccination calendar for animals was ordered for timely awareness and implementation.

    Furthermore, Executive Engineer, Jal Jeevan Mission was tasked to make pending schemes functional at the earliest.
    The BDO was instructed to prioritize material payments, and the ACD was directed to investigate the cause of delays.

    *The DC further emphasized the need for timely tender allotments and directed officers to conduct village visits personally to ensure doorstep delivery of services. Public awareness regarding the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) was also stressed.*

    Residents of Challas expressed their gratitude for the DC’s visit, marking it as the first time such an initiative was held in the village.

    The direct engagement with officers and swift action plans were widely appreciated.
    Post the Block Diwas program, the DC interacted with students of GHS Challas, discussing their aspirations and encouraging them to pursue excellence.

    The event was attended by ADDC Rajouri, Dr Raj Kumar Thapa; DDC Member, Khalid Choudhary; Chief Medical Officer; Assistant Commissioner Development; and other district and block-level officers.

    A Training Programme for Sustainable Livelihood” under MSME at Faculty of Forestry Benhama, Ganderbal Division of Silviculture and Agroforestry launched a weeklong training program Entitled “Fostering Women’s (Schedule Tribe) Empowerment via Agroforestry Entrepreneurship:

    A Training Programme for Sustainable Livelihood” at Benhama Watlar Ganderbal. This program is scheduled to run from November 4th Dec. to 10rd Dec. 2024.

    The inaugural event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. G.M. Bhat, who serves as the Professor and Head of Silviculture and Agroforestry. In his speech, Prof. Bhat emphasized the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset in young generation. It involves shifting from relying on others for employment to generating opportunities that benefit both individuals and society.

    Dr. Megna Rashid, the Program Coordinator, provided an in-depth overview of the training program, underlining the importance of entrepreneurship initiatives in promoting self-sustaining livelihoods. She detailed the program’s design, emphasizing its hands-on approach to equipping participants with practical skills. She emphasized about the way’s women can contribute to income generation from Agroforestry practices. By growing food at home, women contribute to cost savings and, in some cases, generate income by selling surplus produce that fosters economic independence and financial stability within households.

    Dr. M. Maqbool Rather, Assistant Professor, Division of FBT also highlighted women’s role in home gardening, contributing significantly to household food security, nutrition, and environmental sustainability. He emphasized on how Women often adopt eco-friendly methods like composting, crop rotation, promoting environmental conservation and sustainable gardening that enhances mental health and physical fitness through active engagement with nature.

    The inaugural event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. M. Maqbool Rather, Assistant Professor, Division of FBT. Finally, Dr. Megna Rashid, the coordinator, concluded by expressing heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. N.A. Ganie, Director of Planning and Monitoring Prof. H. R.     RAJOURI DEC 04:-In a successful operation, the Rajouri Police team on Naka checking duty at Kalli Dab link road in Rajouri intercepted a Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK11E-0621.

    The vehicle, coming from Rani Bhadtar towards Rajouri, was found loaded with three bovine animals, intended for smuggling.

    The police promptly seized the vehicle and arrested the accused Zulfikar Ali S/O Mohd Azam resident of Rattal Chalas Chingus.

    This crackdown on cattle smuggling is a significant achievement for the Rajouri police, demonstrating their commitment to enforcing the law and protecting the local community.

    Furthermore, a case FIR No 530/2024 under section 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act stands registered at Police Station Rajouri.
