RAJOURI AUGUST 28:–Renowned social activist and spiritual leader Mian Mohammad Mehfooz is set to contest assembly elections as an independent candidate from Rajouri assembly constituency.
Son of the Late Mian Mohammed Luqman, Mehfooz is a prominent figure hailing from village Palullian in Rajouri.
His lineage is deeply rooted in the spiritual heritage of the area, as he is the grandson of the revered Sufi saint, the late Mian Ghulam Sarwar, whose legacy continues to resonate across generations.
The family’s spiritual influence transcends religious boundaries, drawing followers from diverse communities, including Sikhs and Hindus, from the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Mian Mehfooz in 2020 District Development Council (DDC) elections contested from Doongi constituency in Rajouri and garnered 6,848 votes, emerging as the first runner up as he lost by a narrow margin of 164 votes.
On Wednesday, a meet of civil society members was convened at his residence wherein all the participants raised slogans in favour of Mian Mehfooz after that its announced that he will contest polls as an independent candidate from the Rajouri assembly segment.
The participants also appealed people from all walks of life to extend their vote and support for Mian Mehfooz and to secure his win.
