RAJOURI AUGUST 27:–BJP, National Conference (NC), as well as Congress facing tough times in Rajouri district from grass root level leaders, workers over few candidates announced by these parties for J&K Assembly elections.
BJP, a day after cancellation of first list of candidates due to protests by the leaders/workers, released the same list, including for Rajouri district, barring one.
However, BJP didn’t announce the names for two important Assembly Constituencies namely Rajouri and Nowshera.
State President BJP, Ravinder Raina (ex-MLA Nowshera) is likely to contest from this seat but sources said NC-Congress coalition candidate Surinder Chowdary’s popularity forcing BJP to shift him to another safe seat.
As far as Rajouri seat is concerned, Dinesh Sharma, District President and ex-minister and prominent Gujjar leader Ch Talib Hussain’s names were in the forefront.
But ex-MLC and State General Secretary, Vibodh Gupta wanted to contest this seat and is camping in Delhi to get the ticket.
The supporters of present DDC Chairman Rajouri, Adv Naseem Liaqat & Muzaffar Iqbal Khan held a protest against Farooq & Umar Abdullah.
Son of the NC’s former MLA of Rajouri advocate Mohammad Aslam Khan, ex-Judge Muzaffar Iqbal Khan resigned as a Sub Judge in 2018 & joined the NC.
He was expected to be the NC’s candidate from Rajouri in the Assembly elections. However, after the recent delimitation, he is most likely to be the NC’s candidate from the newly created Assembly constituency of Thanamandi in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Supporters of Muzaffar Iqbal Khan and those who resigned from NC today held a meeting at Thanamandi.
Another meeting will be held on Wednesday at Rajouri where it will be decided whether Muzzafar Khan will contest as an independent from Thanamandi or will join another political party.
Similar resentment was expressed against Congress high command by prominent Congress leaders, workers in a meeting held here in Nowshera on Wednesday.
These leaders castigate Congress high command for surrendering the seat to NC.
