    RAJOURI/DELHI JUNE 30:–General Upendra Dwivedi, who has vast strategic and operational experience and a deep understanding of modern and emerging technologies in the security domain, assumed the charge as the 30th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on Sunday (June 30) from Gen Manoj Pande who superannuated today after more than four decades of service to the nation.
    General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, is an accomplished military leader, with 40 years of service in the Armed Forces.
    The 30th Chief of the Indian Army Gen Upendra Dwivedi belongs to the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and was Vice Chief of Army Staff from February-2024.
    An alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa (MP), he was commissioned into the Regiment of Jammu & Kashmir Rifles in 1984.
    Gen Upendra Dwivedi has a unique distinction of balanced command as well as staff exposure across Northern, Eastern and Western theatres, in varied operational environments.
    He takes over as the COAS, at a time when the global geo-strategic environment remains dynamic, with the challenges in the security domain becoming more pronounced due to technological advancements and ever-changing character of modern warfare.
    Operational preparedness to counter security threats to a rising nation, therefore, would figure prominently, as a key focus area for the COAS.
    Concurrently, a focused noor, towards augmenting the nation’s defence.
    “General Dwivedi brings with him, a wealth of experience and a proven track record, of effectively planning and executing for the unexpected. He has tenanted critical appointments and played a pivotal role in combating grey zone manifestations in the national security canvas,” said MoD.
    The General officer has a deep understanding of modern and emerging technologies and possesses a thoughtful approach of harnessing & integrating cutting edge technologies into the military system to enhance operational effectiveness.
    This vision finds congruence to the ongoing pursuit of the Indian Army to fulfil its modernisation and capability development needs through Atmanirbharta.
    His impetus would be to augment infusion of critical technologies by leveraging the nation’s vibrant, capable and productive technology eco-system.
    “A firm believer and follower of the Chetwode Motto, the General will also focus on promoting a culture of Trust, empowerment of Junior Officers, well-being of the Soldiers and welfare of Veterans and Veer Naris, said MoD.
    During about 40 years long and distinguished career, Gen Dwivedi has served in a variety of command, staff, instructional and foreign appointments.
    As Northern Army commander, Gen Dwivedi provided strategic guidance and operational oversight for the planning and execution of sustained operations along the northern and western borders, besides orchestrating the dynamic counter-terrorism operations in J&K.

    RAJOURI JUNE 30:–The National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigating June 9 terrorist attack on a pilgrims bus in Reasi district, in which 9 people including 7 pilgrims were killed, on Sunday conducted searches at 5 locations in Bandhrai village.
    Terrorists had opened fire at a bus carrying pilgrims from Shiv Khori to Katra on the evening of 9th June in Pouni area of Reasi district, causing the bus to fall into a nearby gorge, killing nine people, including a 2-years-old boy.
    The Ministry of Home Affairs handed over the Reasi bus terror attack probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on June 15 and NIA registered a case No.RC-02/2024/NIA/JMU and started investigation.
    During initial investigation Reasi police cracked the nexus between terrorists and local hardcore Over Ground Workers (OGWs), who provided logistics to the perpetrators of bus attack, an arrested one Hakim Khan @ Hakim Din along with his wife & son from Bandrahi village in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district.
    Arrest of Hakim Din was a major breakthrough in the case pertaining to the terrorist attack on the pilgrim bus” said SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma adding that he was a prime terror associate who helped the terrorists in the execution of the attack.
    NIA, which took over the investigation on 15th June on orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India, searched five locations linked with hybrid terrorists and Overground Workers (OGWs) including arrested Hakim Din.
    “The locations were pointed out by Hakam Khan @ Hakin din. Hakam had provided them with safe shelter, logistics and food, as per NIA investigations,” said NIA.
    The searches led to the seizure of various items showing linkages no between the terrorists and OGWs and NIA has started examining the seized material to unravel the terror conspiracy.
    It is pertinent to mention here that Hakim Din during sustained interrogation had revealed that three Pakistani (unidentified) terrorists were involved on the bus attack, and he had provided food shelter to them one day ahead of the attack and also accompanied them to the identified spot (attack on the bus) and their safe journey towards Rajouri district after the attack.

    RAJOURI JUNE 30:–In a tragic late evening road mishap on Sunday (June 30) in Kotranka subdivision of Rajouri district, father-son duo was killed while wife was critically injured and is undertreatment in Associated Hospital Government Medical College (AH GMC) Rajouri.
    The family reportedly was on its way to home in village Korag (Mohra-B) from Koteranka towards Shahpur in a car bearing registration No. Jk11A-3869.
    When reached near village Larkuti the driver lost control over the vehicle, the reason not known yet, and the car rolled down into a about 150 feet deep gorge.
    On getting information about the mishap, people in the area rushed for the help of the accident victims and informed the police also.
    Father and son, identified as Mohd Shakeel (45) s/o Ghulam Nabi resident of Korag and Mukhtar Ahmed (19), died on the spot while Shakeel’s wife Shamim Akhter (44) was critically injured and was referred to AH GMC Rajouri from CHC Kotranka after immediate required treatment.
    The deceased Mohd Shakeel was a daily wage employee of Power Development Department (PDD).
    Police after initial formalities brought the bodies to CHC Kotranka for further medico-legal formalities and postmortem.
    Police have taken cognizance and started further investigation.
