In the first action, Security Forces arrested a hard core over ground worker (OGW) who happens to be a headmaster of a primary school along with a Pakistan made pistol and 2 Chinese hand grenades.
Police said following an intelligence input, a search of the house of headmaster Qamar-ud-Din was conducted jointly by the troops of 39 RR (Romeo Force), SOG and J&K police in Hari Budha village in Mandi tehsil of Poonch district on Saturday evening.
He was working as an over ground worker (OGW) for the terrorists either under greed for making easy money or it may be a case of radicalisation.
During intensive search troops recovered a polythene bag hidden under dry grass carrying a Pakistan made pistol and hand grenades.
Officials said that the consignment recovered from Qamar-ud-Din is suspected to be used to disturb the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections in Poonch district.
Further investigation by the police in this connection is underway.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the month of November in 2023, District Poonch Police have arrested 3 terror operatives (OGWs), including a government teacher namely Aijaz Ahmed of village Sailan, and recovered 2 pistols, Rs 2.5 lacs cash, 4 loaded AK Rifle magazines, & six mobile phones while trying to transport the consignment to Kashmir via Mughal Road.
In the second action a joint team of SOG of District Rajouri Police, troops of 61 RR (Romeo Force) based on specific inputs launched a search and destroy operation in the forested area in Azamtabad and adjoining areas under the Thanamandi police station jurisdiction in Rajouri district on Sunday.
During intensive search in the targeted areas, the troops busted an old hideout of terrorists and after following security SOPs, the troops recovered explosive and ammunition from the hideout.
The recovery includes 1 Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 1 kg; 7 IEDs weighing ½ kg each; 2 wireless sets; 3 AK rifle magazines; 1 ammunition pouch; 102 rounds of AK rifle, and 1 charger.
