Sources said that the incident of ragging between senior & junior students was reported at the new complex of GMC College at Maira two days ago which later took ugly turn to exploit the situation on region and religion basis and also led to physical scuffle.
A police party was rushed to the GMC to control the situation. But the Principal of the GMC, Prof (Dr) A S Bhatia and the GMC Administration took a tough stand against the trouble creators.
Principal GMC, Prof A S Bhatia said that the anti-ragging committee of GMC, headed by Dr Jameel-ul-Hassan, was asked to investigate the incident.
Sources said that the incident of ragging occurred despite)?counselling of the senior students and clear directions to them to abstain from ragging.
Giving a strong message to all students pursuing medical courses in GMC Rajouri, the administration set an example for all educational institutes in the involved in scuffle and ragging, for a period of four weeks from all classes and hostels.
“On anti-ragging committee recommendations seven senior students found involved in ragging and exploiting the situation on region & religion basis have been suspended from all classes & hostels while two junior students were suspended for two weeks,” said principal, Prof A S Bhatia.
Prof A S Bhatia, a strong advocate of implementing J&K Prohibition of Ragging Act, said: “No act of indiscipline will be tolerated in the college premises and the action has been taken on the recommendations of the anti-ragging committee”.
“GMC Rajouri Administration is following student friendly policies, at the same time we will not allow a few miscreants to disturb the peaceful environment of the college,” he added.
Prof Bhatia also said that GMC Rajouri Administration will not succumb either to any political pressure or pressure from the influential parents, like other institutions in this matter and the suspended students will be marked as absentees for four weeks.
To clear their attendance shortage, all these nine students must attend their classes regularly in the future.
“Official letters will be issued to the parents of the expelled students. They can contact the GMC Administration physically or virtually (those unable to travel) to interact on this issue.
He appealed to the parents of all the students to guide their wards properly and to work hard to excel in their academic and extracurricular activities.
The tough stand of the Administration of GMC Rajouri against the miscreants and raggers is well appreciated in social circles.
