    RAJOURI, JUNE 15:–In a tragic road mishap in the the Kotranka sub-division of Rajouri district three persons, reportedly relatives, were killed while a 10 months old baby girl had a miraculous escape in the accident.

    Five persons, including two women who died on the spot, were travelling in the car bearing registration No. JK11F 8759 and were on their way to village Samote when it skidded off the road near the Targain Bridge at about 8.30 am today and fell in the deep gorge.

    Eyewitnesses said that the mishap happened due to rash & negligent driving by one Ayoub Shah (forest guard), who also later succumbs to injuries in Government Medical College Associated Hospital (GMC AH) at Rajouri.

    A police team from Kotranka police station and the locals reached the spot and rescued the three injured to Community Health Center at Koteranka and after initial treatment ll were referred to GMC Associated Hospital in Rajouri.

    According to police, two women, namely Shahnaz Akhter (35) w/o Altaf Hussain Shah and Shah Jaan (50) w/o Wazir Hussain killed on the spot while three injured were identified as Ayoub Shah (50); Akbar Shah (70) and 10- month-old baby.
    Akbar Shah (70) having a serious head injury was later referred to GMC Hospital in Jammu for specialised treatment.

    A police team from the Kotranka police station and the locals reached the spot and rescued the three injured to Community Health Center at Koteranka.

    In this connection a case the police have started an investigation after a case under section 279, 337 IPS was registered at the Kandi police station.

    RAJOURI, JUNE 15:–Alert troops of the Sarla Battalion of the India Army manning the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district foiled another attempt of Pakistan army/ terrorist groups to push trained terrorists into this side of the border.

    Sources said on the intervening night of June 14 & 15 alert troops noticed suspicious movement from the PoJK side along LoC.

    On being challenged the terrorists retrieved towards PoJK side, leaving behind 2 bags full of arms, ammunition, grenades, Pakistan-made medicines, eatable items, clothes etc.

    “In a joint operation the alert troops of Indian Army and J&K Police foiled an Infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Krishna Ghati Sector, District Poonch, on the night of 14/15 June 2023″ said PRO Defence (Jammu), Lt Col. Devender Anand.
    During a search of the area in the early hours of Thursday, troops recovered two bags left behind by the terrorists while retrieving towards PoJK.

    Army recovered huge quantity of arms, ammunition, medicines, & clothes from the bags.
    The recovery includes one AK 74 rifle along with 9 magazines and 468 rounds (including steel core); six hand grenades; two 7.62 mm Pistols, along with 4 magazines and 60 rounds; daggers, digging shovel, & wire cutter.
    The medicines recovered include 10-Ibuprofin tablets & 20 Paracetamol tablets & 20 Aceclofanac & 4-Voren Injections (Karachi made); 1-Batadine bottle, 8-first aid bandages etc.2-swimming goggles & masks
    Clothes include 2-trouser, 2-shirts, 2-swimming goggles & masks
    1-Packet of toffees, 2 packets of dry fruits, 1 Smartphone, 1 Garmin Etrex 22 X, Thuraya solar charger, 1 power bank, 4 AA batteries, lighters, nylon ropes & 1 pull-through were among other items recovered from the bags.
    “By this swift action another infiltration bid has been foiled, which had the potential to disturb peace in Poonch district,” said PRO Defence.

    RAJOURI JUNE 15:–Tightening its noose against unlawful act of illegal smuggling and sale of liquor, a shopkeeper has been arrested from Narian area of Rajouri and a consignment of liquor has been seized from his possession.

    The recovery and arrest has been made by team of police alongwith central reserve police force during a drive launched to check sale of liquor from some shops along Jammu Rajouri Poonch national highway.

    Rajouri Police said that a team of police headed by Deputy SP Headquarter Rajouri Mudassir Hussain alongwith SHO Rajouri Mohammad Showket Chowdhary and PSI Maan Singh alongwith a team of CRPF 72 Battalion conducted raids at a number of shops between Bathuni and Narian under police station Rajouri.

    The raids were conducted amid complaints about illegal sale and smuggling of liquor at some shops along highway.

    During this drive, a shopkeeper namely Parshotam Lal son of Jagdish Raj resident Phali Sialsui has been arrested after a consignment of liquor was seized from his shop at Narain.

    The recovery include around twenty five litres of locally prepared desi liquor and some bottles of smuggled liquor.

    Cognizance into the matter has been taken and further investigation is going on.

    Rajouri Police said that sale and smuggling of illicit liquor is being checked across the district and many arrests have been made in recent past while the drive against this unlawful act will remain continue.

    POONCH JUNE 15:–4th day of Annual Inter Zone District Level Tournament for U 17 boys commenced here today at Sports Stadium Poonch organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Poonch and overall champion in four day touranment by the great performance of zone Surankote observed.

    The tournament witnessed competitions in various disciplines including Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, chess, carrom, badminton.

    The chief guest addressed the student players, encouraging them to participate with true sportsmanship and emphasizing the importance of sports in their lives and advised them to keep themselves away from drug abuse and other anti social activities.

    To mark the commencement of the tournament, all participating student players took an oath to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the event.

    A total of 294 u17 boys student players from 7 zones actively participated in the competitions.

    The event witnessed the enthusiastic presence of the district’s field staff, demonstrating their support for the young athletes.

    The Annual Inter Zone District Level Tournament was held under the patronage of Subhash Chibber, Director of Youth Services & Sports, J&K Jammu. DYSSO Poonch Mohd Qasim along with ZPEO’s all the zones supervised the event.

    This prestigious tournament not only showcases the sporting talent of the youth but also aims to foster a spirit of healthy competition among the participants. It provides a platform to young athletes to excel in their respective disciplines and encourages the development of a robust sports culture within the district.

    The Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Poonch extended its gratitude to all the participants, officials, and supporters for their contribution in making this tournament a resounding success.     SRINAGAR JUNE 15:–Prof. M. A. A. Siddique, acting Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir visited the Faculty of Agriculture Wadura Sopore on June 15, 2023 to inaugurate Wheat-Barley Field day, Training & Skill internship (VRITIKA) sponsored by SERB DST, New Delhi.

    The programme was attended by Mr. Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal Director Agriculture Kashmir, Former Deans of the Faculty, Scientists, PC of KVKs, Officers of the Development Departments and farmers.

    The objective of Farmer field days are on-farm classrooms which help farmers learn successful farming technologies and techniques, and get practical information from agricultural experts, fellow farmers and research organizations that the farmers can use to plan or enhance their own operations.

    Prof. Raihana H. Kanth Dean Faculty of Agriculture in her welcome address highlighted the role of high yielding crop varieties released by SKUAST-K in enhancing the crop productivity and congratulated the scientists for breeding these revolutionary varieties. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal Director Agriculture Kashmir expressed hope that the Holistic Agricultural Development Programme will help in developing critical rural infrastructure, build the capacity of farmers and enhance their access to technology and national & international markets. He laid special emphasis on close coordination between SKUAST-Kashmir and Development Departments to achieve the desired objectives of HADP. Further, he impressed upon the scientists to breed for the varieties that are high in nutritional quality. He highlighted the role of early maturing wheat in the adoption of rice-wheat cropping system in the Valley. Prof. M. A. A. Siddique, Chief Guest of the occasion emphasized that Farmer field days help farmers see how farming techniques can be practically used and applied to improve yields and economic returns, as well as nutrition security and economic growth in a broader economic sense. He highlighted the challenges farming community is facing regarding declining of agricultural land, water scarcity, inclement weather, climate changes, nutritional security and stressed upon the Scientists and researchers to find out the ways to overcome these for profitable farming. He also emphasized on the adoption of resource conserving technologies such as, system of rice intensification and direct seeded rice for saving water, crop diversification and use of green manures. Prof. Siddique also released several books which includes “Internet of Things in Business” for the benefit of students, stakeholders & farming community.
    Prof. Asif B. Shikari, HoD GPB appraised farmers regarding newly released varieties & their yield potential. He also stressed that the seed replacement as quality seed is the most important technological component to transform agriculture. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor also inaugurated Training & Skill internship (VRITIKA) on “Advanced instrumentation techniques for assessment of soil health indicators” organized by Division of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry under the aegis of SERB DST, New Delhi. Prof. Javid A. Bhat, HoD Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry gave an overview of the skill internship programme. He stated that this programme aims to provide opportunities to promising PG students from universities and colleges to get exposure & hands-on research skill development experience. Prof. T. A. Raja presented the vote of thanks to the dignitaries & participants.
