    RAJOURI March 21:- Jammu and Kashmir was hit by a strong earthquake at 10:20 PM on Tuesday night, causing panic among people who came out of their homes and called their relative Neighbour friends ones to inquire about their well-being.

    *There was an earthquake of extreme intensity. According to the details of the viral post on social media, 6.6 strong earthquake tremors were felt*

    In Kashmir valley people left their houses during earthquake 

    There was no immediate report of any damage due to the strong tremors in the Pir Panchal region which spread fear and panic among people who came out of their homes.*

    RAJOURI, MARCH 21:–Within twelve hours of NDRF conducting a district-level mock drill on earthquake/other natural calamities at the District Police Lines ground, strong earthquake tremors (twice) lasting for several seconds hit the entire Rajouri district at about 10.17 pm along with other parts of the State.
    People were seen running out of their houses in safer places in panic after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Rajouri city. Even the power supply was snapped immediately after the earthquake.
    An earthquake occurs suddenly without any warnings and very rapidly, causing violent movements of the earth and everything above, and is among the most stunning geological processes.
    “A quick response team of doctors and Paramedics have been kept on alert to meet any post-earthquake emergency, ” said Dr. Mehmood Bajar, Medical Superintendent, Associated Hospital GMC Rajouri.

    13 Bn NDRF organised a district-level mock exercise on earthquake and landslide at DPL Ground Rajouri on Tuesday with the objective to raise awareness among the community and demonstrate the readiness of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to respond quickly in case of any natural disaster.
    Among others present in the mock drill include Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Vikas Kundal (chief guest); SSP, Mohd Aslam; and Dy SP SDRF Civil Defence, Jabeen.
    NDRF personnel conducted a mock rescue and relief operation which included rapid deployment of rescue teams, search and rescue operations, medical aid, evacuation of stranded people, and first aid.
    The exercise allowed all stakeholders an opportunity to assess their state of preparedness and response mechanism in a simulated setting. It also helped instill public confidence that help will reach them promptly in case of a disaster
    The DC, Vikas Kundal urged the NDRF team to remain vigilant and be well-prepared to effectively handle any disaster-related issues. He emphasised on a prompt response to disasters to minimise their impact on affected populations.
    He also highlighted the need for local communities to be aware of possible disasters that could occur in their region & urged them to take necessary precautions and be prepared.
    He emphasized building community resilience for effective disaster management and stressed on active participation from all stakeholders.

    RAJOURI, MARCH 21:–Kandi Health Block in Rajouri district on Tuesdays celebrated World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) at Community Health Center (CHC) at Kotranka under the supervision of Dr. Iqbal Malik, BMO Kandi.
    The Theme for World Down Syndrome Day-2023 is ‘With US Not For Us’.
    Down syndrome is a genetic condition that affects people of all races, backgrounds, and ethnicity. It happens when there is an extra copy of the 21st chromosome which leads to physical and intellectual disabilities.

    People with Down syndrome generally have distinct facial features and have several health complications such as heart defects, hearing and vision problems, and thyroid conditions.
    Every year, March 21 is observed as World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). The United Nations General Assembly adopted March 21 as World Down Syndrome Day in 2012.
    The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
    In the CHC Kotranka, World Down Syndrome Day was celebrated along with ASHAs in an effort to raise awareness about Down syndrome and to advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of people with Down syndrome.
    The ASHAs were aware that people with Down syndrome have the right to education, employment, healthcare, and social inclusion, and that they can make valuable contributions to society.

    RAJOURI MARCH  21:–District Police Rajouri on Tuesday kick started Rajouri open Badminton tournament at sports stadium Rajouri.

    The tournament is being organised under Civic Action Programme.

    Teams of Under 13, Under 30 and above 30 category are participating in the tournament.

    The aim of the tournament is to give opportunities to the youth to showcase their talent and to encourage the young generation to participate in sports activities.

    The tournament was inaugurated by SSP Rajouri Mohd Aslam who while interacting with the participants and other civil society members told that J&K police endeavours to provide ample opportunities to youth to display their talent.

    He also highlighted that such programmes under CAP shall be done in future also and police shall keep organising such events to provide a platform to people having sportsmanship and spirit. He stressed youth to stay away from drugs.
