At the outset, Prof. Raihana H. Kanth, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, enlightened the participants with the importance of climate smart agriculture. She emphasized that response farming is an integrative approach; it could be called farming with advisories taken from the technocrats depending on local weather information. The success of response farming, viz., decreased danger and enhanced productivity has already been taken in many other states. response farming can be a viable choice for climate change adoption strategies, for the variations of climate is not a sudden one. The main cause for the success of response farming is because of both location and time-specific technologies. It is time to take forward the success of response farming to the entire farming community. Prof. Arshad Mughal in his address stated that, in the present scenario to overcome the effect of climate change farmers have already begun to make adaptations to deal with the effects of climate change. The most common form of adaptation made by the farmers is the use of new varieties that can withstand the effect of climate change. Other forms of adaptation include the use of water pumps, adjusting planting times, using natural pesticides, using organic fertilizers, and altering cropping patterns. Further, mitigating and adaptation strategies such as intercropping, alternate wetting and drying, precise farming, improved tillage, and integrated farming system, are needed to mitigate the negative effects of climate change. Similarly, the development of high-yielding and climate-smart rice cultivars by using different new breeding, genomic tools, and genetic engineering need to be prioritized. He also stated that land use & climate change are interrelated to each other. This change influences one another at various temporal & spatial scales, however, improper land uses are the primary causal factor on climate change. Dr. Amal Saxena, HoD Agronomy stated that intensive research efforts are needed to make the crops nutritive and resilient to climate change. He further highlighted the need for the region-specific climate models for climate prediction and modeling. Earlier, Dr. Lal Singh formally welcomed the guests & participants and gave the brief account about the workshops and stressed on the need for protecting the soil health & quality, water resources conservation & management, evidence-based decision making based on local & regional level interventions for the climate smart agriculture. Addressing a press conference at Party Office in Gandhi Nagar, he said that Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu has advertised 50 posts of non-teaching vacant posts for their recruitment in which Pahari Speaking People (PSP) category people have not been considered in the reservation quota.

The said Agriculture University has discriminated against the huge population of the Pahari Speaking People from Poonch to Uri and all other districts of J&K,” he said and demanded action against the officials responsible for ignoring Pahari Speaking people’s constitutional right.

He said that a political party had raised the Pahari issues and extended its support to them but on the ground they have misled the huge population and deprived them of their constitutionally granted right of reservation quota in recruitments.

“The Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University – Jammu has also ignored the reservation quota in their advertisement as they do not want to give reservation to the Pahari Speaking people which becomes an offence and hence, the issue must be handled as per the law,” he said.

He said that the Apni Party will not tolerate discrimination with Pahari Speaking People. He also highlighted the issues of recruitment scams.

Adding more details, Apni Party State Coordinator Sunny Kant Chib said that the youth wait for the recruitment in Govt departments and when the recruitment process completes, they come to know about the scam in the recruitment process following which these recruitments get cancelled.

“It has given rise to the depression and psychological issues among the educated youth who appeared in different recruitment processes but could not find their place in the final list due to scams in the entire process of recruitment,” he said.

He said that the administration should not force people to come on the roads if the accused persons in the recruitment scams are not brought to book.

Meanwhile, Provincial President Student Wing Apni Party, Anuj Manhas demanded that the recruitment agency should be changed and those associated with it from the last many years should be replaced with immediate effect to bring transparency and restore confidence of the educated youth.

“The youth who appear for different posts in various Govt departments have lost their faith in the recruitment agency. Hence, the immediate action is to restore the confidence of the people preparing for the recruitment exams,” he said.

Whereas, District President Jammu Youth Shivam Choudhary also expressed deep concern over the growing unemployment and failure of the administration to curb the corrupt practices due to which repeated scams have been surfacing.

“The youth were expecting a transparent recruitment process but the people with money and influence are getting their children employed in Govt service in absence of accountability at the hands of the Govt. The bureaucracy has misused the authority and played with the future of the students,” he added.
