    Suspected drug peddler found hanging inside lockup in J-K’s Kathua

    Kathua/Jammu, February 06: A 35-year-old suspected drug peddler allegedly hanged himself inside a lockup at a police station in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, triggering protests by his relatives and demands for a judicial probe into the incident, officials said.

    Sunil Verma, a resident of Tapyal village, was arrested along with 11.47 grams of heroin during vehicle checking in Hiranagar area on Thursday and was being questioned at the local police station, the officials said.

    Verma was found hanging with his muffler inside the washroom at the police station around 8.10 am and was rushed to Government Medical College hospital Kathua, where he was declared brought dead, the officials said, claiming he had committed suicide.

    However, his relatives on getting information about his death visited the police station and later blocked Jammu-Pathankot highway near Londi Morh demanding a judicial inquiry into the incident.

    The protesters also demanded immediate suspension of the officers concerned, the officials said, adding senior police and civil officers have rushed to the scene to ensure early opening of the highway.

    The officials said the body will be handed over to his family after completion of legal formalities.–(PTI)

    Asks officers to take effective measures to redress public grievances in a time bound manner

    RAJOURI, FEBRUARY 06: Continuing his efforts to reach out the masses and to redress their grievances at their doorsteps, the District Development Council Chairman Rajouri, Choudhary Naseem Liaqat today held a public outreach camp here at Kherian, Bai-Nambal).

    The public and their representatives apprised the Chairman about scores of issues and demands of their areas including macadamization of roads, upgradation of schools, better health services, paucity of staff in Govt institutions and other related issues.

    In his address, the Chairman said that the District Development Council is making persistent efforts to provide quality services to the common masses, that too at their doorsteps to ensure that they don’t face any inconvenience.

    “The District Development Council is working through vision and mission on its way to all round development of the district”, he added.

    The Chairman directed the officers to work with a missionary zeal so that the people of the area may not be deprived of getting their genuine demands.

    He also asked them to gear up their field machinery and ensure that the difficulties of the people are addressed and resolved at the earliest.

    The Chairman also appealed to the public to ensure their active participation in the developmental process to take the district to new heights of development.

    He also assured the public that all their grievances have been documented and all their genuine concerns would be redressed in a phased manner with the intervention of the concerned departments.

    The Chairman also appealed to the public to keep following the COVID appropriate behaviours to avert the third wave in the district.

    Later the Chairman visited Targain with police officials to condone the demise of a local youth who was murdered. He directed the police officials to swiftly investigate the matter and bring the culprit to the book.

    Chattisgarah, February 06:-The Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya Musical Institute, Khairagarah, Chattisgarah vice chancellor on Sunday, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the legendary musician Lata Mangeshkar, who died on Sunday morning after a brief illness.

    The VC stated that the legendary singer was deeply connected with this music institute and that her role will be remembered for the rest of her life.

    She came here on February 2, 1980. He was awarded an honorary degree of D.Litt from this university. The present Vice Chancellor of Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, the eminent folk singer Padmashree Mamta Chandrakar, was a student of MA in classical music (vocal) in those days at this university.

     During that stay, the guests were served food by the students. Mamta Chandrakar was also among those who served the food. Lata ji had been served Kadhi by Mamta Chandrakar.Swarkokila enjoyed the curry with gusto.

    The Vice Chancellor of the University, Padmashree Mamta Chandrakar, has expressed condolences and said that “Bharat Ratna Lata ji has always been my idol.” His passing from this world is a personal and irreparable loss for me. Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya.

    The vice chancellor also prayed for the everlasting peace to the departed soul, also expressed sympathy with her friend and family members.
