Two cattle shed were also damaged and 3 cattle were killed on July 28.
Recent incessant rains followed by flash floods have caused heavy loss to crops and Kachha houses (mud houses) in the Kotranka sub-district in Rajouri district.
Manzoor Naik a prominent social and political activist of the area has appealed to the LG Government for suitable compensation/relief for the affected poor people who have no approach to district /sub-district administration.
During the last five days, torrential rains have caused extensive damage to crops, fruit trees, and property. Revenue teams will take a lot of time to prepare the details of the damages while the affected poor people need immediate help from the state government” said Manzoor Naik.
The worst affected tehsils include Chasana, Budhal & Kotranka and people affected by torrential rains, floods, landslides in these Panchayats needs urgent help from the administration.
Manzoor demanded a fair and transparent survey of the affected people by the revenue officials because, like in the past, poor people having no resources to contact revenue teams will find no mention of their losses in the lists and the blue-eyed ( faced no losses) will get the benefits.
“About 80 percent of families in these areas are totally dependent on agriculture and heavy rains have caused huge damage to the crops and the farmers are under tremendous anxiety.
“These affected people besides heavy losses to crops and fruit trees are also worried about the well-being of their family members working as labourer in other states of the country,” said Manzoor.

SHAMIM GANIE URGED THE GOVERNMENT TO WAIVE OFF KCC OF THE FARMERS.

Poonch July 30:– President Peoples Democratic Party District Poonch Shamim Ganie has urged upon the Lieutenant Governor (J&K) to waive off the Kissan Credit Card (KCC) loan of the farmers belonging to Sub-Himalayas or hilly districts of Poonch and Rajouri J&K as their crops have been damaged due to untimely precipitation, flash floods and draught during monsoon initial face. As a result, the helpless farmers are unable to pay their instalments. In addition, young labourers who work at different parts of country and also acts as a farmer during sowing and harvesting period could not help their families during prolonged lockdown under Covid-19 pandemic.

Shamim has said that the KCC was launched by NABARD and RBI to meet the financial requirement of the Farmers related to crop production. He said that the scheme was launched to save the farmers from high interest rates by money lenders and brokers. In view of covid-19 situation, EMI was extended up to 31, August, 2021, but now they have to pay instalments in upcoming months. However, due to prolonged lockdown under Covid-19 pandemic, Draught from several months and recently heavy rains and flash flood in this particular region have damaged the crops completely. It has become very difficult for farmers to pay remaining instalments of KCC loan.

Shamim further said that farmers families members who used to work in private sector, menial jobs and Labourers have also lost their part time jobs and works. It is pertinent to mention that the income of the farmers including their families have decreased drastically in last several months due to prolonged lockdown and natural calamities. There is huge financial crisis to the farmers of this region as they are only dependent on timely monsoonal rains. Moreover, the government has also not given any financial help to the beleaguered farmers of the region.

Shamim has stressed upon the Government of India and Jammu and Kashmir to waive off the KCC loan. He also demanded to government to constitute a Agricultural assessment committee to review the impact on farmers from Covid-19 prolonged lockdown, natural calamities and livelihood of farmers in this particular region of J&K as they are under huge financial stress.

Ruheena Shahzad appealed LG JKUT for complete ban on use of polythene in kashmir valley.

Srinagar July 30:– Social activist Ruheena Shahzad issued a statement said that I see on social media that authorities lunching a drive against the use of polythene in the markets of Kashmir valley used to be very common. however, of late these drives are not being held on large scale. As a result polythene bags can be found at almost every shop in kashmir. At times, locals too used to be fined for carrying polythene bags but now they are roaming freely while carrying the same. There seems to be no strict plan in place against its use. Though these drives cannot be the solution to stop the use of polythene, it certainly impacts the thinking of a sizeable numbers of people that are not aware of the damages it causes to our environment. The ill effect of polythene are well known as not just the government, the environmentalists too have been ringing in this regard for quite some time now, She added. Ruheena Shahzad has appealed LG JKUT Manoj Sinha ji for complete ban on use of polythene in kashmir valley which has caused damage to our environment.
