Like in 2014 floods, MWS again come to rescue, handed over 10 lac rupee cheque to DC Srinagar
Srinagar, Mar 28: In wake of COVID-19 outbreak across J&K, management of Muslim Welfare Society (MWS) Bemina on Friday handed over 10 lac rupee cheque to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for getting necessary medical equipments required to treat Corona Virus patients.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), officials of MWS said as the situation is going bad to worse every day, they decided to assist administration in tough times so that lives of common people could be saved.
“In this regard a cheque of rupees ten lacs was handed over to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary by MWS Chairman to get required medical equipments needed to combat the deadly virus.
“Due to precautionary restrictions imposed by authorities for the wellbeing of community, MSW was unable to come out for the rescue of people of its own as there is already restriction on mass gathering”, an official of the institution said.
He said, “After thorough deliberation and taking the current situation into account, it was decided that MSW will assist and provide full cooperation to administration while dealing COVID-19 pandemic”.
He added that the said effort is not first of its kind but organization had done tremendous work in past also during natural calamities including 2014 floods.
“During the meeting with DC Srinagar, MSW also offered its structures for quarantine purpose in wake of growing number of suspects in Valley but authorities assured they will first visit of the institution and then further course of action will be taken”, official said.
He further added rations kits containing rice, spices, tea, soap, edible oil etc are being prepared and will be given to needy people with the assistance of administration with taking all precautionary measures into account. (KNS) -

Jammu, 28 March/2020: Amidst lockdown in Jammu and Kashmir due to Corono pandemic and restriction of movement of people, Dr. Shazad Malik, former Vice Chancellor of Sai Nath University and prominent social activist have appealed the Jammu and Kashmir government to make arrangements for providing relief and transportation for stranded passengers from Rajouri and Poonch who are stuck in different areas of Jammu due to non availability of public transportation.
The former VC informed that there are several people including government employees, students, patients and attendants hailing from remote districts of Jammu region who were in Jammu city but who could not reach their native villages due to lock down and restrictions announced by the local administration.
Making a fervent appeal to the J & K UT administration, he demanded that all these people who are stuck here in Jammu district are now running out of money and are compelled to stay in Jammu.
Many of them are without food, medicine and proper shelter, therefore the UT government, the social activists and NGOs should come forward and make arrangements for departure of these stranded passengers to their respective destinations. Though he also appreciated the major relief programs announced by the J & K UT administration and government of India in the wake of COVID19 including providing of free ration and temporary moratorium for paying monthly EMIs to the bank against loans.

Family members of fresh Covid-19 patients quarantined, put under observation
Srinagar, Mar 28: Government is busy in hunting for those who have returned Valley but concealed travel history. Official sources told KNT that special teams have been constituted to look for these persons who are reluctant to reveal travel history.
A Government official said besides looking for these fellows, authorities are also sending teams to different areas, persuading family members of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases to get tested and quarantined.
Official added that 17 more relatives of different positive cases were shifted to JLNM Rainwari Hospital. “These members were quarantined and put under observation,” he said.
The confirmed Covid-19 cases in Kashmir have surfaced from Khanyar (1), Natipore (3), Bandipora (5), Bemina (2) and Chatabal (2). Some of the affected persons including a toddler came into contact with positive patients having travel history.
Reports said that the family members of every confirmed cases have been quarantined and put under observation. An official said that that given the movement of confirmed patients, there are apprehensions that more Covid-19 cases may surface in coming days. He advised people to stay indoors and asked people with travel history to self report.
The native areas of fresh Covid-19 patients have been sanitized and people have been advised to take utmost care.
Meanwhile, reports from Rawalpora, in Srinagar outskirts said two females who recently landed in Srinagar from Italy refused to follow the directives of Health team. An official said that everyone having travel history will be quarantined. (KNT)
