    From Editor Desk

‘Achhe Din’ were supposed to have arrived in 2014, but didn’t. Even 5-years later, there is no trace of its much hyped arrival. In fact, the past 5-year period has been an exercise in creating circumstances that are antithetical to the sustenance of ‘Achhe Din’.

As Shri Modi, whose 2014 election campaign was funded by his crony capitalist friends, looked to return the favour after taking office, the first people to suffer were India’s farmers.

Under Shri Modi, agricultural growth has fallen, growth in rural income has flat lined, jobs are not being created and farmer suicides have risen. UPA’s landmark social welfare schemes, like MGNREGA and Food Security Act could have made a huge difference. But the Government, out of sheer political vindictiveness, has chosen to ignore their implementation.

The farmers & poor people are jobless, starving & parched.

  • NOTA ‘outperforms’ over 50% contesting candidates in J&K Over 21,000 people decline to show faith in politicians

NOTA ‘outperforms’ over 50% contesting candidates in J&K Over 21,000 people decline to show faith in politicians

Contestants of mainstream parties among worst performers

JAMMU: Incredible it may sound but it is a fact that None of the Above (NOTA) option ‘outperformed’ over 50% candidates including those belonging to mainstream political parties like Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), National Panthers Party (NPP) and Shiv Sena in the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The None of the Above also known as “against all” or a “scratch” vote is an option on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) designed to allow the voters to indicate disapproval of the candidates in the voting system. This option was first used in the Assembly elections in five States in 2013 and thereafter the same was extended to whole of India and since then this option is provided in Assembly as well as Parliamentary elections.
As per the figures of the Election Commission of India (ECI), 79 candidates contested elections from six Lok Sabha seats namely Jammu-Poonch, Kathua-Doda-Udhampur, Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag and Ladakh. A total of 21724 people declined to show faith in the contesting candidates and pressed NOTA button on the Electronic Voting Machines.
The NOTA received maximum votes in Baramulla Lok Sabha seat (8113) followed by Udhampur (7568) and minimum votes in Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency (922). Out of total 79 contestants, 45 candidates (more than 50%) secured far less votes than the NOTA option, which is considered as major embarrassment for such contestants.
As far as Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary constituency is concerned, a total of 2618 voters refused to show faith in any of the 24 contestants. However, 15 candidates secured votes less than the NOTA option. They are Sushil Kumar of Hindustan Nirman Dal (1281 votes), Syed Aqib Hussain of Independent People’s Party (1723), Gursagar Singh of Navrang Congress Party (1103), Mohd Younis of J&K Pir Panjal Awami Party (1612) and Manish Sahni of Shiv Sena (1192).
Among the independent candidates who failed to get more votes than NOTA are Rajiv Chuni (refugee leader), Tarsem Lal Khullar and Satish Poonchi.
As per the data of the ECI, a total of 7568 voters preferred to cast vote in favour of NOTA instead of contesting candidates in Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary constituency. There were 12 candidates in the fray and seven of them have been outperformed by NOTA. Those who bagged votes less than NOTA are Mohd Ayub of Navrang Congress Party (1673), Meenakshi of Shiv Sena (1660) and five Independents.
In Srinagar Parliamentary constituency a total of 1566 people opted for NOTA and out of total 12 contestants seven bagged votes less than None of the Above. They are Abdul Rashid Ganaie of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (791 votes), Showkat Hussain Khan of Janata Dal United (1250), Abdul Khaliq Bhat of Shiv Sena (578), Nazir Ahmed Lone of Rashtriya Jankranti Party (506), Nazir Ahmed Sofi of Manavadhikar National Party (1507) and two Independents.
The NOTA option was overwhelmingly used in Baramulla Parliamentary constituency where 8113 people pressed this button on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) by rejecting nine contestants. Four candidates—one each of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party and Bharatiya Janata Party and two independents secured far less votes than the NOTA. JKNPP candidate bagged 4323 votes while as only 6081 people supported BJP’s Mohd Maqbool War.
As far as Anantnag Parliamentary constituency is concerned, 937 people exercised NOTA option by rejecting the candidates who were in the fray. Out of 18 contestants, 12 failed to receive votes equivalent to that of NOTA. They included Nisar Ahmad Wani of JKNPP (589 votes), Surinder Singh of Pragatishil Samajwadi Party (217), Sanjay Kumar Dhar of Manavadhikar National Party (677 votes).
In Ladakh Parliamentary constituency, 922 people pressed NOTA button on EVMs but none of the contesting candidates received votes less than None of the Above.
Majority of the contestants who have been ‘outperformed’ by the NOTA were aware of the fact that they don’t enjoy public support but still they jumped the fray for the reasons best known to them. Some of them even consider themselves as ‘leaders of the masses’ but the figures of the Election Commission of India have broken their myth.

  • Azad didn’t cast his vote couldn’t secure lead from home assembly segment.”

Azad didn’t cast his vote couldn’t secure lead from home assembly segment.”

Srinagar, (RNA): Amid speculations of Congress President Rahul Ganndi offering to quit owing to humiliating drubing in the elections, Voices of desent in Party’s Jammu and Kashmir Unit against a stalwart leader- considered to be close to Gandhi family -has also began gaining momentum, with some terming him as a mere ‘ liability’ who has not been able to win votes for pary candidate even from his own assmebly segment. The party leaders are upset with the former Chief Minister and leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad who was the chairman of the Campiaging Committee in the state – for not taking the contest in the J&K seriously and giving the BJP virtualy a ‘walkover’ in the Jammu and Ladakh regions. Many senior congress leaders in the party told RNA that Azad did not hold even a single meeting of the nine member Campaiging committee in the state which led to fragmentation of the party, resulting in the debacle.

While accusing him of being politically ‘selfish’, the local congress leaders said that the former Chief Minister did not even cast his own vote and did not bother to take others along.

Sources in the party told RNA that the absence of understanding and cohesiveness in the congress team led to a huge debacle for party in the Jammu and Ladakh regions. They siad even in Azad’s home consistency, the BJP candidate and Union Minister Dr. Jatinder Singh secured a whophing lead of more than three and a half lakh votes which is more than what Azad secured in totality when he contested against Singh in 2014. They blamed Azad of trying to hide his failures and alleged that he was scared of contesting the elections.

“If Rahul Gandhi can contest elections, why can’t Azad. He is not contesting assembly elections and is runing away from Parliament elections as well. So how can he be a guiding force and an inspiration for others. He wants to play safe which is costing the party immensely.” A senior leader of the JKPCC told RNA.
Another leader reveled to RNA that Azad- who was the chairman of the campaign comitee in J&K- has not held even a single meeting of the committee and prefered to go solo with an intention to take the credit in case of a win.

“Have you ever seen that a campaiging committee constituted for the elections actually ends up never meeting during the whole process.” questioned a senior leader of the party who was part of the committee, adding that now when a debacle has come their way, he ( Azad) must be ready to reap the dividents of dis-credit also.

He called the former Chief Minster a ‘conspirator’ who resorts to ‘ negative politics’ indulging in ‘ revenage tactics’ if someone doesn’t agree with him.
“He did it against Prof. Soz also and has been doing even now. Nobody in the party is feeling comfortable wih him but they don’t speak fearing he would conspire against them and would ensure that they lose in the elections.” a leader in the party told RNA, adding that they would only get his emailed choper schedule from Delhi during the capmaging.

“He used to come and go. Choper rides won’t win you the elections. See at BJP, they sent leaders who camped in Jammu, Udampur, Dooda, Ladakh and held extesive campaiging. Instead Azad was coming and going. Touch and Go was what he did and this can’t win you elections.” another leader who was privy to the devlopments told RNA. He claimed that lakhs of muslims voted for BJP in Rajouri and Ponch and Azad was never serious to reach out to them .
“BJP’s public support was at the lowest ebb, but they have strong organisation which won them this election. We had public support but a weak organisation which could not channelise that support properly due to old, obselete tactics.” Said the leader stressing for a huge overhaul of the organisation.

“ Rahul Gandhi must be ruthless to rise from the debalce. He must roll heads. If the congress has to survive and make a comeback, heads must roll and Rahul Gandhi must be decisive and throw these leaders out.” demanded the visibly agitated leaders in J&K congress.
According to sources, the local Unit of Congress was up in arms against Azad  and might demand him to shoulder the responsibility of the poor performance in J&K.
“ Everythiing has an expiry date. He has reached to optimum expiry and must consider siting back now. He is not contesting elections, nor is he helping others to win, so what for do we need him in the party. He must go now.” demanded a senior leader. (RNA)

High court disposes PIL of Marwah residents, Orders realignment of Renai-Pathgam road “Advocate Nazim Qazi, Counsel for petitioners welcome the decision”

    Shafqat Shaheen Sheikh

Kishtwar May 26 (GNS). In a much publicised PIL of Marwah residents who had submitted before the Hon’ble High Court that the alignment of Renai Pethgam road be reconsidered owing to the apprehensions of gargantuan damage to the ancient temple and historical remanets of pandavas which are lying around the proposed road.
Hon’ble High Court in its earlier order against the PIL No WWPIL 3 /2017 had directed the state and Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to realign and order the executing agencies to review the project from the zero point to save the monuments and the ancient temple which was not even cost effective. The Court gave eight weeks time to the respondents to review the project.
Accordingly the District Development Commissioner Kishtwar vide his order no DDCK/RY/PMGSY/153/17669-76 dated 14-02-2017 directed the concerned agency to realign the road owing to the court directions. But the respondents as per the order remained silent on the order which was again challenged by Advocate Nazim Qazi before double bench Who in turn passed the order directing the respondent to execute the order with in a period of eight weeks.
The petitioners have heaved a sigh of relief after the order which saved both the monuments and the cost of construction.
People have hailed the role of the learned advocate for the cause of general public in the larger interest of the society.
