100 illegal structures removed amid curfew in J&K’s Bhaderwah

Bhaderwah: Over 100 illegal structures were demolished in an anti-encroachment drive here Saturday amidst a strict curfew after a person was killed allegedly by cow vigilantes, officials said.

The drive was carried out by Bhaderwah Municipal Committee (BMC) in the curfew-bound areas including Seri Bazaar, Jai Road, Ganpat Bazaar, Takia Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Laxmi Narayan Chowk, Jamia Masjid locality and Pasri Bus Stand, the officials said.

Curfew remained clamped in Bhaderwah valley of Doda district for the third day on Saturday following violent protests by members of a community against killing of the person.

“We removed more than 100 illegal temporary structures, as these were not only nuisance for the common public but also creating law and order problem day in and out,” Executive Officer BMC, Mohd Ashraf Zargar told PTI.

He said the action was taken in the larger public interest as encroachers have narrowed down the roads by raising illegal structures like temporary sheds, iron grills, boards, benches and tables.

Tehsildar, Zeshan Tahir said the encroachment was the main reason for the massive traffic snarls in the town.

“Notices were also issued to owners of various other shops,” he said adding the drive will continue in future as well.

At a citizen grievance meeting recently, the District Development Commissioner, Doda, Sagar Dattaray Doifode had assured strict action against the violators and encroachments in the town.

“It’s Education Zone Drabshalla” A teacher who says that I am nation builder

    SHAFQAT SHAHEEN SHEIKH
Chinnab Valley May, 18  :–One of the teacher namely Mr Sajjad Hussain posted at GMS Piyakul of zone Drabshalla has put the entire teacher community in the state of ignominy . Mr Sajad is claiming that he is district convener of teachers fraternity in Kishtwar district and a true nation builder. On the other hand he is completely at sea in english language .
“ Here is the screenshot in which he has tried his best to make others understand that he has good hold on english, but unfortunately many of his posts on social media are making troll and fun of entire teacher community.”
The following are the mistakes done by him on social networking sites with respect to english language.
According to him the spelling of Blackmailer is either *BLACK MAKER or BLACK MALER*, and he is the one who uses first form of verb in present perfect tense.
Mr Sajad ( who is popularly known as Sajad English in zone Drabshalla ) uses *s or es with I , we , they* especially in present indefinite tense and surprisingly he uses first form of verb in past tenses.
It is pertinent to mention that how far we can expect that our children can get best possible quality education if we have teachers like Sajad Hussain in our schools, colleges and universities.

  • Assembly polls in J&K likely to start after Amarnath Yatra

Assembly polls in J&K likely to start after Amarnath Yatra

Planning for J&K polls has been caught between two views with EC’s special observers telling the Commission that the state should go to poll in either five or six phases right after the Lok Sabha elections and the Union home ministry and the J&K administration pitching for elections after August.

The 46-day annual pilgrimage to the south Kashmir Himalayas takes up a lot of the state administration’s time and requires heavy security deployment.

Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, in all likelihood, will be held only after the Amarnath Yatra ends in August, even as special observers appointed by Election Commission (EC) had recommended polls in May-June. Officials told that there isn’t enough time left for the Commission to announce and wind up a multi-phase election before July 1, when Amarnath Yatra begins.

The 46-day annual pilgrimage to the south Kashmir Himalayas takes up a lot of the state administration’s time and requires heavy security deployment. In fact, as the security forces need to man the entire national highway from Lakhanpur to Kashmir Valley and other the yatra routes from Baltal and Pahalgam to the holy shrine, the state administration starts deploying them at least a fortnight before the start of the Yatra. “The feasible window (for holding assembly polls before the Yatra) is too tight,” said an official, who did not wish to be identified.

Planning for J&K polls has been caught between two views with EC’s special observers telling the Commission that the state should go to poll in either five or six phases right after the Lok Sabha elections and the Union home ministry and the J&K administration pitching for elections after August.

At maiden press briefing, PM Modi says BJP will return to power, but takes no questions
The J&K administration, in fact, is in favour of elections in November so that the nomadic Gujjars and Bakerwals can cast their vote. By then, they would have reached the lawns as part of their seasonal migration from higher reaches, representatives of J&K administration are learnt to have argued in their meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Election Commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra held on April 26.

After this meeting, the Commission had sought a clarification from union home ministry and the J&K administration asking who exactly (or at which level) were their recommendation on the timing of Assembly elections approved before it was shared with the EC.

The two recently clarified that their pitch for polls after August was cleared at the highest level, that is by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik. The state has been without an elected government after the BJP pulled the plug on the coalition government with PDP in June last year. The state was then first placed under Governor’s Rule on June 19, 2018 and has been under President’s rule since December 19.

President’s rule will have to be extended in June, if the Commission finally decides to hold assembly elections after the Amarnath Yatra.

“Godse Killed Gandhi, Pragya Killed His Soul”, Says Kailash Satyarthi

Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi said, “Godse assassinated Gandhi’s body. But people like Pragya are killing his soul…”

Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kailash Satyarthi today hit out at BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur for her comment that Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, was a “deshbhakt (patriot)”. The 65-year-old child rights activist posted a message on Twitter warning the nation that comments by people like Pragya Thakur were “killing the soul of India”.

“Godse assassinated Gandhi’s body. But people like Pragya are killing his soul along with non-violence, peace and tolerance. Gandhi is above every party and politics. The BJP leadership must leave the desire for small benefits and immediately remove them from the party and follow ‘raj dharma’ (duty of governance),” Mr Satyarthi tweeted in Hindi.

Pragya Thakur made her “deshbhakt” comment in response to an earlier remark by actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan, who had said, “Godse, the first extremist of independent India, was a Hindu”.
It sparked an avalanche of criticism from the opposition, with Congress leader Digvijaya Singh – who is her rival for the Bhopal seat – claiming her statement amounted to sedition.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also hit out at Pragya Thakur and the BJP.

She was also criticised by Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, whose tweet warned the country it risked “becoming the Taliban”.

Amid spiralling criticism, the BJP was forced into damage control mode yesterday with party president Amit Shah tweeting: “These comments have nothing to do with the party. All three (two other BJP leaders tweeted in support of Pragya Singh Thakur but both tweets have since been deleted) have apologized, but these comments are against the ideology of the BJP and are being referred to the disciplinary committee”.

Pragya Thakur finally apologised late on Thursday night, tweeting: “I apologise to the people of the country for my statements on Nathuram Godse. My statement was absolutely wrong. I have huge respect for the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi”.

An accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast, Pragya Thakur, who is out on bail, was named the BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Bhopal in April and has made controversial comments like claiming she “cursed” police officer Hemant Karkare, who died fighting terrorists in the 26/11 attack, and bragging about participating in the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

She received a 72-hour campaigning ban from the Election Commission for those comments.
